Three traits a good sales ledger will have

Strong maths and organisational skills are crucial to any role in the financial sector – so this list will not include those. Instead, it will focus on five other skills which are highly desirable and attractive to sales ledger recruiters.

Communication

This first one is closely linked to organisation skills. Communicating with colleagues is something sales ledgers are often required to do on a daily basis – whether this is reporting to supervisors or managers, or exchanging information about accounts with colleagues.

Attention to detail

As mathematical accuracy is so crucial to sales ledger roles, so too is attention to detail. The ability to quickly spot mistakes and discrepancies minimises problems, and sometimes prevents them altogether.

Bookkeeping takes up a huge chunk of the sales ledger's time. It is very important that records are kept for all customer activity – the more detailed, the better. This helps massively when investigating customers and deciding on what action to take.

Perseverance

Chasing up customers is an everyday task for most sales ledgers. Late payment and non-payment from customers is not exactly unusual. This is one of the more challenging aspects of the job, but a good sales ledger will be undeterred by customers' reluctance to pay, and will politely pursue.
